We are part of a global movement that distributes surplus food to charities who then create meals for the homeless and the vulnerable. Hundreds of thousands of tonnes of good food is wasted by the UK food industry every year while 8.4 million people are struggling to afford to eat. In 2019, we distributed 20,838 tons of food, reached 1,960 towns and cities in the UK, helped 10,943 charities and community groups and provided 46.5 million meals to vulnerable people.
To take food that's good to eat but can't be sold in shops because of packaging errors or overproduction. We then redistribute it to vulnerable people through our network of 10,000 frontline charities, including food banks, breakfast clubs, older people's centres and refuges. We work right across the UK, feeding almost a million people a week.
