Many hospitals in developing countries lack the essential medical supplies and equipment to support its patients, especially the vulnerable children diagnosed with HIV. This dangers the lives of those seeking medical assistance, so on top of sourcing and delivering child-formulated HIV medication to hospitals in underserved and marginalised communities in Uganda, Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo and Zimbabwe, they also send containers full of medical supplies and equipment. Quality healthcare is a basic human right.
As many children living with HIV are more vulnerable to diseases and illnesses, it’s important for them to have access to quality healthcare and support. Many communities and villages don’t have easy access to hospitals and are forced to walk for hours to reach adequate care. The hospitals they reach must be equipped with quality medical supplies and equipment which accommodate the needs of the patients. Without the basic medical supplies and equipment, hospitals fail to function effectively and are unable to treat their patients which can be fatal for those living with HIV. For example, a bandage is essential in preventing infections in open wounds and avoiding the effect an infection can have on the weakened immune system of a child.
