In Tennessee, too many children grow up without a single book in their home. Families that are struggling to survive economically often cannot encourage their children's literacy by purchasing books. The mission of Book’em is to create a more literate Nashville and ignite children’s passion for reading through book ownership and enthusiastic volunteers. We are helping to create a future in Nashville where all children own books and know first-hand the joy and value of reading.
By providing a child with a book, you give them the opportunity to advance their reading skills, shaping their lives for the better. Having their own personal books that they have chosen for themselves motivates children to read and to love reading. This in turn helps them to develop and advance in their reading skills and identify as life-long readers.
Your impact donation is helping to achieve the below Sustainable Development Goals developed by the United Nations.
We are a children's charity with the mission to develop literacy rates in Nashville and spur on children's passion for reading through book ownership and our enthusiastic volunteers. We do this by distributing tens of thousands of books annually. Through our partnerships with Metro Nashville Public Schools, Habitat for Humanity, Metro Public Health Department, Davidson County Juvenile Court, and more than 160 other organizations we have provided thousands of books to organizations that serve the underprivileged youth (ages 0-18), administered programs in elementary schools and organized Read Me Day events.
